This Saturday was incredibly long. I set a personal record for the earliest I have ever been playing music. I started a corporate show at 8:30am for a computer hardware company at one of the most gorgeous hotels I have been to, The Umstead Hotel and Spa. Lynne Wilkerson of Carolina Arrangements contacted me and set this show up. Basically, I MC’ed and played music for 7 teams of 7 people. The teams were instructed to build a girl and boy’s bike, answer trivia questions, and later race the bikes. After it was all done and a winner was announced, 14 kids from the Boys and Girls Club came and were given the bikes. It was very sweet and a great ending to the event.
My evening show was also at The Umstead. I barely had to move my gear, it was great. Suzy Savod and Allen Sherman looked perfect when they entered the room to U2’s “Beautiful Day”. The room was unbelievable. Lyn Graves of Fresh Affairs had done gorgeous centerpieces which made a really nice ballroom even more dramatic. Kevin Milz Photography was there to capture the photos for the day. And, for the second weekend in a row, I got the play the Hora before dinner started. Now that is a way to kick off a party! This should happen at every wedding, Jewish or not! I also got to play a lot of songs that I haven’t spun in forever since they had a heavy 80’s concentration on their list. Another fun one.
