New Year's Eve-12/31/08

January 6th, 2009

First off, Happy New Year everyone! I hope that this year is better for our country than 2008, but we’ll see. On to the show! My gig was for the members of Chapel Hill’s Governors Club. I was booked several months ago by my friend Scotti Bond over there. When I arrived, the room looked amazing decked out with ice luges, sculptures, peacock feathers and covered tables. The buffet was massive! As the guests arrived, I kept it low key, but around 9:30 people started coming up and saying “Let’ put this party in gear!”. This was an older crowd so I hit ‘em with a mix of Motown, oldies, beach, and 70’s pretty much all night long. At 5 til midnight, I played “Shout” and the roof came off! When I did the countdown to midnight, we fired off two huge confetti cannons that littered the dance floor! It was hot! I then played “Auld Lang Syne” (whatever the heck that means) and then went right into “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang and then Prince’s “1999”. After a few more songs, folks started heading out and I was done at 12:30. It was actually a great night and a fun way to ring in the new year. I hope to be back next year!
