Gibbs/McCaslin Reception-August 29th, 2009
August 31st, 2009
Melissa and John’s reception Saturday took place at Durham’s Hope Valley Country Club. Even though this place is 83 years old, it is an awesome club to have a reception. I really like playing there and Steven and the staff there are on the ball. As soon as the bridal party arrived, I lined them up for intros. The bridal party entered to the instrumental of “Bittersweet Symphony” and the bride and groom came in to “At Last” by Etta James. As soon as they hit the dance floor, I started their first dance song. This song was new to me, it was beautiful “We Are Man and Wife” by Michelle Featherston. You’ve gotta check this one out. It’s great! After a welcome by the father of the bride and a blessing, the guests moved from the ballroom into the dining room for a huge buffet dinner. As dinner ended, several people gave moving toasts and the lovely cake was cut. Everyone moved back into the ballroom afterwards for Melissa’s dance with her dad to “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw and then John and his mother danced to “Unforgettable”. Finally it was time to open the dance floor. John and Melissa picked “Then Came You” by the Spinners as the opener and the dance floor started moving. I ran through all types of music during the night even playing some current stuff like Lady Gaga at the end of the night. The finale song was “The Way You Look Tonight” by Sinatra. It was a perfect way to the end the night. I sent the guests out front for the big sparkler exit, and John and Melissa drove off into the night on a golf cart all decorated up! It was awesome and reminded me of my wedding when we did the same thing leaving the church. The photographer was Bianca Palmer from A Moment Like This and I’m sure she is going to send me some great photos that I will be posting here!
