I am finally proud to announce that our new offices have moved and are open for bride meetings and consultations! We are now located at the corner of Six Forks Rd. and Whitaker Mill Rd. in Raleigh (right near Snoopy’s!). It is a cool old ranch house that is zoned commercial with an awesome sign out front. Shane Snider Photography also has an office in here with us. If you don’t know him, check out his site, he’s great. In fact, the pictures below are his. We are looking forward to serving you from our new location. Stop by and see us!

This reception took place in Durham at the lovely Washington Duke Inn. I knew this was going to be a great party just by the way people reacted to the introductions! After getting through some very tricky names while talking over “Getting Jiggy With It”, I switched the song to “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” and Ginny and Josh made their grand entrance. The crowd went NUTS, and they both looked amazing. Their first dance was an oldie called “Fascination” by Nat King Cole and their routine was actually very good. I think one of my favorite dances this year was the father/daughter dance to “In My Life” by The Beatles. Ginny had told me to cut it half way through and bust into “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da” also by the Beatles. At this point, her brothers cut in and proceeded to break it down. It was hilarious. Everyone loved it.

The dinner was a great looking buffet and before I knew it, the dancing was beginning…at 7:30 and we were going til midnight! This was going to be a long dance set, but I knew these folks could hang. I played a mix of just about every genre from oldies to 90’s to current stuff and they ate it up. Ginny is a dancing machine! This girl was rocking to just about every song. I love it when the bride and groom are on the dance floor all night. Josh came up at one point worn out from trying to keep up with his new wife. To sum it up, this was a great party due to energetic guests and a great bridal party, and of course great bride and groom. I loved it! I hope to post some pictures by Courtney from Tamara Lackey Photography soon.

Melinda and Ben’s reception at the famous Carolina Inn was amazing! The couple chose to come into the room to a Coldplay instrumental and then went right into their first dance, “True Companion” by Marc Cohn. This is one of my all time favorite songs for a first dance. If you don’t know it, spend the 99 cents and buy it today. On with the show…The dinner looked fantastic and the toasts and cake cutting (great one by Sweet Memories) went off without a hitch. As soon as the parent dances were over, the party BEGAN! These folks came to party and hit the dance floor with a passion. I mixed up all types of music from their playlist and even threw in some of my favorites. The Old Well Room was rocking! As for the pictures, I am hoping that I can get some from Abigail Seymour and will post them soon. Great reception!

Antini/Olson Reception 8/9/08

August 13th, 2008

Steve and Amy’s reception was absolutely off the hook! I always seem to have great dancing crowds at Brier Creek and this reception was no different. Steve and Amy showed up looking great and as I was lining them up in the hall, I could tell this crowd came to party. One guy said he was going to get naked for the formal introductions (thankfully he didn’t). The bridal party came charging in to Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love”, but Steve and Amy switched it up for their entrance to “The Imperial March” from Star Wars. It was perfect! They picked “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys for their first dance and I could almost hear everyone singing along. Amy and her father danced to “Little Miss Magic” by Jimmy Buffett and I swear I almost cried, it was very touching.

Steve worked hard on his playlist and I did my best to honor it. It turns out he used to be a DJ, and I could tell. Great songs were on this list and the party was on from the first song! These people were NUTS and I was loving it! Now, for the best part, Steve and Amy wanted to do a “dance off”. They not only gave out gift certificates to the first and second place dancers, but they had a championship belt for the winner! It was from the movie Rocky, but they had taken out Rocky and Apollo’s pictures and stuck in Bobby Brown and Paula Abdul. Classic! The two finalists were breakdancing, flopping on the floor, and doing the best “worms” ever. What a great reception. I hope to get some awesome pictures from Kevin Milz for this blog soon.

Kerry and Bob’s rehearsal dinner this past Friday night at the beautiful Old Well Room at the Carolina Inn was just perfect. They had a very laid back Mexican themed event with unbelievable linens from CE Rentals and florals by Lyn Graves of Fresh Affairs. As usual, Cara from A Southern Soiree did a great job of coordinating the event and making sure it not only looked great, but that the event ran great. For this event, the couple wanted a very laid back, “beachy” vibe so I just play alot of background music like Jack Johnson, James Taylor, Phish, Bob Marley, some beach music, and even some mariachi music! I think that everyone had a great time and I heard the reception on Saturday at Governor’s Club was so rocking that they broke the dance floor! Nice! I hope to get some pictures from Tamara Lackey when she returns from the Outer Banks next week.

Elaine and Chris had an amazing reception this past weekend at Prestonwood ,one of my favorite places to DJ a wedding. Gail Stephenson was the wedding consultant for this event and things flowed very smoothly thanks to her help. She’s definitely a pro. After making their entrance, the couple went right into their first dance, “Groovy Kind of Love” by Phil Collins. Next, Elaine danced with her father and then we moved into dinner. They had an amazing buffet and soon after Chris danced with his mom. We then had the best man and maid of honor toasts, two cakes were cut, the bouquet and garter were tossed, and the dance floor opened. We were a little behind so we did all of those things together boom, boom, boom. I will have to say this crowd came to party, it was alot of fun. I do have to mention that Michael with Fleurtations did an amazing job with the flowers and decor and it was all topped off with some amazing lighting by Rick Bryda with Total Production Services. A great reception indeed!

Summer Concerts Abound!

August 1st, 2008

I have seen 2 awesome shows in the past week at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre. Last week was Snoop and 311. I haven’t seen Snoop in years and he opened the show with the HEAT! He is still as hot as ever and killed it! I have seen 311 many times dating all the way back to the Mad Monk in Wilmington, NC. These guys are amazing and their live show is unreal. One of my DJ’s, Randy Bennett, and I had a blast.

Just a few days ago, my wife and I went to the Counting Crows/Maroon 5 show. I will say that Counting Crows is one of my favorite bands of all time, but they just didn’t deliver and I’m not sure why. The singer, Adam Duritz, came out with a cane saying that he had landed wrong on his foot several shows before. Maybe he was hopped up on painkillers or something? I don’t know, but I was disappointed. Maroon 5 saved this show hands down. They always seem bad on TV shows, but not live. They killed it! Great sound, lights, and song choices. Killer show!

Nicole and Brad’s reception was at Chapel Hill’s gorgeous Governor’s Club. From the start, I knew this was going to be a great crowd. They were even hard to get lined up since they were so amped. The bride and groom had actually picked songs for most of the bridal party so each person had a theme song. It was a great introduction! They picked a classic “At Last” by Etta James for their first dance. After dinner, toasts, and cake, the party was on! This crowd really did come to party. I played a mix of just about every genre. They loved it and it was awesome to be able to mix it up like that. I really liked working with Scotti over at the Governor’s Club and once again I was with Neil Boyd and will post the pictures as soon as I get them.

The Select Group 7/31/08

August 1st, 2008

Last night I dj’ed a great corporate event for The Select Group at their new office by the RBC Center. This was their grand opening and customer appreciation event. It was an awesome party with casino tables, open bar, big time door prizes, and much more. In fact, Mayor Meeker spoke as did “the voice of the Carolina Hurricanes”, John Forslund. I have to say thanks to Maria with Maranna Designs for hooking me up with Sheldon and The Select Group.

Record of the Week 8/4/08

August 1st, 2008

I am going to try to write a short blog entry each week about a record that I am loving that week. This first entry I am going to have to mention a record that Randy Bennett turned me on to. The group, or guy I guess, is called Girl Talk. You can either check out Night Ripper or Feed The Animals. Basically, it is a continuous mix of mashups, but not the terrible ones that these kids are putting out on the internet. In fact, they are so unbelievable that I will have to classify this guy as genius. As soon as you recognize the sample he is using, it flips to the next one. Trust me, it is unbelievable. Word of warning-the lyrics are explicit. Enjoy!
