As you recall, I spoke at the Once in a Lifetime Wedding Show at the Washington Duke Inn a few weeks back. I just realized my friend Marthanna Yater sent me some great pictures that were sitting on my desktop. Check them out! Great stuff!

Well, Sunday was yet another wedding show day. However, I’ll be honest with you, I always get excited about this show at Chapel Hill’s historic hotel The Carolina Inn. I just love this place, and this wedding show is so different because you actually get a chance to connect with the brides that come through since it is smaller. The best part is that most of these brides were already using our services! Score! Anyway, I dreamed up another idea and my designer, Leslie Ivey, brought it to life once again. I had an idea of using old doors as a backdrop and then having candles and flowers on them with our logo looking like it was crackling paint. You know what? She pulled it off and it looked awesome! Check out the picture below from my buddy Chris with Azul Photography We also got to bring in our photo booth and that was a huge hit. Thanks to everyone that stopped by our booth to show us some love!

This was Beth’s second wedding, but the first for Bill, and they made it a great day. I arrived after the ceremony to the Sheraton Chapel Hill, and set up during cocktails. Soon afterwards, the event was on time to start. Beth’s daughter welcomed everyone and introduced her mom and Bill’s first dance “Bless the Broken Road”. The best man, Glenn, gave a toast and Uncle Budge gave the blessing. A great buffet followed, and then it was off to the dancing! I will have to admit, I started dance music at 7pm, with an 11pm stop time on my contract. I didn’t think it would make it, but these folks knew how to party! I played all types of music from country line dances to hip hop, and they ate it up! It was a great reception, and a good way to start the new year. Congrats to Beth and Bill! Check out a few of the images below from Ray Ferguson (rebecca.a.ferguson@gmail.com) , she was great to work with.

Galloway Ridge at Fearrington is an amazing retirement community with a great group of employees. They had their event in the auditorium on their property this year and it turned out great. They had food, presents, awards, and even a wii! Everyone had a great time and I even got some folks up dancing. I look forward to getting back out there early next year!

I played for bioMerieux last week for their big awards ceremony. It was basically like their version of the Golden Globes. It was a great night and they went all out on the audio/visual portion. I even got to tie into the A/V guys’ sound system. Nice! The event was in the brand new Raleigh Convention Center. If you haven’t been yet, you have to get downtown and check it out. It is truly beautiful and state of the art. The night started off with dinner and cocktails, which were pretty standard, then awards, which were really well produced. Finally, they turned me loose and once I got the lights dimmed, the party took off. These guys were supposed to stop at 11, then extended to midnight, then 12:30! I finally had to shut them down! What a great group! It was an awesome way to start the year.

I actually had Friday and Saturday nights off. I love January and February in that I get a break, but I am not making any money…ugghhhh! Anyway, I did a really neat wedding show yesterday at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham. This show isn’t your typical booth style show where each vendor has their 10’x10’ spot. It is actually more like a press conference where brides can ask various vendors questions about wedding related things. There are florists, caterers, wedding planners, and basically everything you would need to plan a wedding. After those sessions, guests are treated to a great lunch in the President’s Ballroom where different table tops, gowns, and tuxes are displayed and talked about by wedding pros. Finally, there is a dessert party at the end where brides mingle with vendors. It really is a great concept, and we hope to see you at the next one. For more information and a list of the vendors that participated, check out the website. Also, check out the great pictures below from Scott Faber Photography.

Colin and Davis Rolling!

January 9th, 2009

Colin got this electric Escalade for Christmas. Actually, he got it a year ago and would drive it into the bushes, so we re-gifted it for this year. He kinda remembered it from the year past, but still loved it…and now he can drive it better (but not great as you’ll see from this clip where he takes his brother Davis for a spin).

The Wedding Show 2009

January 7th, 2009

Wow, what a weekend. We were at the NC State Fairgrounds this past weekend for The Wedding Show put on by Forever Bridal Productions. Dom and Laura really know how to put on a show in style and will bend over backwards to help you while you are there. All good vendors in the wedding industry should be there. There’s my plug for them! LOL. Now, on to how cool my booth was. We basically re-created our office here on Whitaker Mill inside a tent. It was killer! For the first time ever, I left the building thinking “this is exactly what I had envisioned”. Alot of people, including my DJ’s, worked really hard on this booth. Thanks to Classic Party Rentals for the tent and white leather couch, Lyn Graves & Fresh Affairs for the florals, Leslie Ivey Creative for making it all come together and building the awesome DJ booth, and Rick Bryda with Total Production Services for lighting it up orange style. I loved it, and I hope the brides and vendors did too. Looking forward to getting business from the show! Happy New Year to everyone. Check out the pics below from my boy Shane Snider, in one of them Cris from Azul Photography and I are jumping around like idiots.

Becker/Racine Reception 1/2/09

January 6th, 2009

Chris and Kristin’s reception was the day after New Year’s Day at the amazing Carolina Inn, one of my favorite places in NC. I have to admit, that I thought people were going to still be hung over after a long holiday season…boy was I wrong. From the very beginning intro song Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida”, the crowd was rowdy and ready to party. The bride and groom went right into their first dance by Tony Bennett, “They Can’t Take that Away from Me”. The father of the bride welcomed everyone and then we had a blessing before dinner. Their seated dinner looked amazing and soon after we moved into parent dances, “Isn’t She Lovely” for the Bride/Father and “The Long and Winding Road” for the Groom/Mother. After toasts and cake, it was time rock! As soon as I played the first song, the dance floor filled up and remained that way until midnight. I was all over the map musically. I was pulling songs from their list, taking requests, and adding in my own flavor to create the perfect mix. This was the perfect way to start the new year! I have to say thanks to Sally from An Elegant Affair for doing an excellent job coordinating on the night of the event. Also, check out some of the night’s shots taken by Kristin with KPO Photo.

New Year's Eve-12/31/08

January 6th, 2009

First off, Happy New Year everyone! I hope that this year is better for our country than 2008, but we’ll see. On to the show! My gig was for the members of Chapel Hill’s Governors Club. I was booked several months ago by my friend Scotti Bond over there. When I arrived, the room looked amazing decked out with ice luges, sculptures, peacock feathers and covered tables. The buffet was massive! As the guests arrived, I kept it low key, but around 9:30 people started coming up and saying “Let’ put this party in gear!”. This was an older crowd so I hit ‘em with a mix of Motown, oldies, beach, and 70’s pretty much all night long. At 5 til midnight, I played “Shout” and the roof came off! When I did the countdown to midnight, we fired off two huge confetti cannons that littered the dance floor! It was hot! I then played “Auld Lang Syne” (whatever the heck that means) and then went right into “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang and then Prince’s “1999”. After a few more songs, folks started heading out and I was done at 12:30. It was actually a great night and a fun way to ring in the new year. I hope to be back next year!

School Dance 12/30/08

January 6th, 2009

Every year all of the high schools in Wilson have a big holiday party a few years after Christmas to give the kids something to do. It is always a huge event with 300-400 kids showing up at the Wilson Country Club. I have been doing the gig for a few years, and it is pretty much madness from about 9:30-midnight. I had Peter from Island Sounds do the lighting and sound and I basically just showed up to DJ. I was loving that! The music is pretty much all urban Top 40 and they will definitely do the “Cha Cha Slide” and “Cupid Shuffle”. I had a great time doing it, but was definitely worn out by midnight. That is a tough show! I look forward to next year’s!
