The Umstead Resort and Spa in Cary was the setting for Matt and Kristen’s Reception. The ceremony was moved inside at the last moment due to rain, but was equally as radiant…thanks to the quick work by Ami Wheeler and her staff.

The reception began with the bridal party’s entrance to “Baba O’ Riley” by The Who, also know as “Teenage Wasteland”, with Matt and Kristen making their entrance to “Friday I’m in Love” by The Cure. A welcome by the bride’s father, then the blessing by the Minister preceded dinner followed by the bride and groom’s dance to Nat “King” Cole’s “When I Fall in Love”. The Bride then danced with her rock and roller Father to “Little Wing” by Jimi Hendrix. Matt then danced with his Mother to Babara Streisand’s “The Way We Were”. The cake was cut to Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” and the dancing began to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”. The bouquet toss was to “Lucky Star” by Madonna and the Groom removed and tossed the garter to “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness. The couple exited to “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King, but other special songs were “Forever and Ever, Amen” by Randy Travis and tears were shed to “Dionne Warwick’s “That’s What Friends are For”.

Thank you Matt and Kristen for letting me join you in your wonderful day. Kristine Dittmer and her crew were the photographers and I will post photos when I receive them.

Lori and Bijal’s ceremony and reception took place in Fuquay Varina, NC at Highgrove. The weather was iffy at first and even right up until the beginning of the ceremony it was drizzling, but eventually it cleared up and they were able to have their outdoor ceremony. Kayelily Middleton was their officiant and did a great job of mixing Hindu and Christian elements to create the perfect union. After the ceremony, guests made their way to the patio for drinks and a special promegranate cocktail. After ushering guests into the main tent, I lined up the very large bridal party and introduced them to “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas and everyone was pumped! Their first dance was to Ray Lamontagne’s “You Are the Best Thing”. Again, I can’t stress how good this song is! Lori then danced with her dad to “Cinderella” by Steven Curtis Chapman. Her grandfather gave the blessing and the food stations opened up to the guests. The food looked great as always! Dinner ended and we had some great toasts from Lori’s dad, her sister, and the best man. Cinda’s Creative Cakes created a huge coconut masterpiece and Lori and Bijal cut it right after the toasts. Next on the agenda-open dance floor! My turn to rock. This crowd came to get down! From song one, the dance floor was packed and I was all over the map musically! From Motown to the Electric Slide to Bollywood music to hip hop! I mixed them all and the crowd was jumping (literally). What an amazing reception, I just wish it had been longer! Check out the pix below from Bianca with A Moment Like This. Hotness!

Gillian and Craig’s reception was held at The State Club on NC State’s Centennial Campus. I really love this place. First, it’s an easy load in for a DJ! Secondly, it is a gorgeous room with a high ceiling and the 2nd floor overlooks the dance floor area. What a great view to see the whole party. Anyway, this event kicked off with “Start Me Up” by the Stones and everyone on their feet for the entrance of the bridal party and bride and groom! They went right into “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray Lamontagne. I DIE for this song! One of the best ever!!! Gillian danced with her dad to “Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters (nice shag song), and Craig danced with his mom to “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. Afterwards, the entire bridal party danced to “For Once in My Life” by Michael Buble. Next up-dinner! A great seated dinner was served, followed by champagne toasts and the cake cutting. Finally, my turn, it was dance time, and I got to play off of their great playlist and mix in some of my own tunes. I did beach and Motown early, and then started playing Top 40 later in the night. This event was rocking until midnight! Check out the pictures from KC with Craige & Van Roden Photography. Thanks to everyone at the State Club, the Mansons, and the McGranes for having me as part of their celebration!

A slightly chilly, windy day at the stunning Carolina Yacht Club located in Wrightsville Beach, NC could not put a damper on the spirits of Champ and Angie’s wedding Reception. Kevin Smith is one of the managers there and it always looks amazing. The radiant entrance down the elevator to the fitting chorus of Queen’s “We Are The Champions” lead the way to the first dance to “At Last” by the great Etta James, followed by Angie and her father’s dance to “My Finest Hour” by the Sundays, and Champ and his mother’s dance to Elton John’s “Your Song”.

The beautiful buffet stations were then opened by Bon Appetit Catering, followed by the heart warming toast by the groom’s father. The beautiful cake created by Nicki MacRae of Nicki’s Cakes of Wilmington was cut to “Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen. The evening was rocked by the couple’s choices of 80’s hits such as John Fogerty’s “Centerfield”, “True” by Spandau Ballet, and “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds. Other classic hits included “Glory Days” by the Boss, “Red Red Wine” by UB40 and Simon and Garfunkel’s “Cecilia”.

Matt McGraw of Matt McGraw Photography took the photos and I will upload some samples as they arrive. Thank you Champ and Angie for the great weekend!

Lynnette and Patrick’s reception took place at the newly rebuilt Chapel Hill Country Club I think this is only the second or third wedding there since it’s reopening. It is such a nice place now, totally all new, and Jeff Earley over there does a great job holding it all together! The ceremony was outside on this particular Saturday and I was hired to do the music and mics. The weather was “iffy” all afternoon and of course it started sprinkling just as Lynnette walked down the aisle. She made a joke about it and as they say, “the show must go on”. The officiant put it in high gear (thankfully, since all of my gear was getting wet!) and married them quickly. The guests hurried in to the reception area as the rain stopped and Michelle and Scott Faber of Scott Faber Photography got down to business with the formal photos. I pulled my gear under shelter and also went inside to start the cocktail tunes. The bridal party came in shortly after to “With This Ring” by The Platters and Lynette and Pat danced their first dance to “Amazed” by Lonestar which was sung by Patrick’s sister Senja and her daughter Halle. They also did “Bless the Broken Road” at the ceremony. Great singers! The guests were barely even through the food stations when people started dancing to my dinner music! I could tell this group came to party, and they definitely didn’t disappoint! The floor was packed all night only breaking for a few toasts, the cake cutting, and the bouquet and garter toss. This reception was a major dance party! It was a great time and I’m glad I was able to be a part of it! Check out the Faber Photos!

Sarah and Tim’s Friday reception took place at a great location, Sister’s on Millbrook. This huge room is a great spot for a party and Marc over there always takes care of the guests and his DJs! The bridal party entered the room to “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. What a song to get you pumped! Next, Sarah and Tim went right into their first dance “Only You Can Love Me This Way” by Keith Urban. I’ll admit, I’m not a huge country fan, but I love Keith Urban, and this is a great song! After the dance, the buffet opened and guests were treated to some amazing food, especially the shrimp and grits! After dinner, we did the parent dances to “I Loved Her First” and “My Wish”. Both were great choices. The cake followed after and then we did the anniversary dance. If you have never seen this, it’s when I invite all of the married couples on to the dance floor and then ask those married less than a year to sit down, less then 5 years to sit down, etc. The “winners” of this anniversary dance had been married 55 years…that’s so awesome! That’s what marriage is all about. Anyway, the crowd was only about 90 people at this wedding, but alot of them came to party, including Sarah, that girl can dance! What a great time! I will have to say that the cake from Cinda’s Cakes was amazing and one of my favorite photographers was there also. Martha Manning delivered again! Check out below. Thanks to the new Mr. and Mrs. Martin for having me!

Being a producer for ABC in Chicago has its advantages. When Ross and Beth made their grand entrance down the steps of Marbles Kids Museum, the “paparazzi” from Penny Noell Photography were naturally there to record the moment. The bridal party preceded them to “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, however the couple entered to “Jump” by the Pointer Sisters. The guests cheered them on and created an exciting entrance followed by the couple’s romantic first dance to Ben E. King’s epic “Stand By Me”. The parental dances of “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw and “You Are The Sunshine of My Life” by Stevie Wonder took place on the “top of the world” of Marbles’ marble mural on the dance floor, and were met with the usual teary eyes, and “ooo’s and aaah’s” from friends and family.

Dinner was provided by Jeff Eisenhuth with Triangle Catering Company among Marbles’ stunning atmosphere of silver and black linens. By the way, their Shrimp and Grits are AWESOME! Thanks Jeff! After dinner, the toasts were provided by the Best Man and Maid of Honor and the cake was cut to James Taylor’s “How Sweet It Is”. I opened the dance floor to the couple’s request of “December 1963 (Oh What a Night!)” by Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons and it seems the night’s sing alongs began. The revelers knew the words to every single song that I spun. That’s a great feeling as a DJ.

After the rendition of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi, the evening finished with “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and the couple exited in style with a kiss and sparklers. Thanks Ross and Beth “Side-Weidner” for inviting me to share your wonderful evening! Photos courtesy of Penny Noell Photography .

Lindsay and Eric’s reception was at the lovely TPC at Wakefield. I have been playing there alot lately, haven’t I? That works for me because Jaclyn Parks and her team there do a great job! I also had some help from Molly with Bella Bean as well, so we had this reception pretty much on schedule. The bridal party came in after the cocktail hour to “Sexyback” and then the bride and groom danced in to “Another One Bites the Dust”. Their first dance was “Oh Love” by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. This was my first time playing this song, it’s really good! Lindsay then danced with her dad to Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” and Eric danced with his mom to “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. After the dances, the food stations opened as did the doors to the dining room. Guests were treated to some awesome prime rib and pasta! We did the toasts from the dining room at the end of dinner and then finally moved back to the ballroom for the cake cutting and my favorite part of the night-open dancing! Lindsay put together an eclectic mix of songs from country to top 40 and I tried to work them all in. The guests had a good time and the bouquet and garter toss were the only times we stopped dancing until the very end. Thanks to the new Mr. and Mrs. Whyne for letting me be a part of their special day! Check out the images from Cinema One Studio.

Katie and Rich’s reception took place at noon at Cafe Luna. This was my first wedding of a very long day, but luckily I had an awesome planner working with me to keep things moving. Tracy Adams of Adams & Events always has me smiling and laughing, all the while doing a great job! The guests arrived right around noon and went into the front room for cocktails. I had a small speaker in that room playing a mix of Rat Pack type stuff. After the bride and groom arrived, we moved into the second and third rooms and I went back to the entrance to line everyone up. Their introduction song was “Beautiful Day” by U2. After they came in, they went straight into their first dance, “This Years Love” by David Gray (I love this song so much). After the cake and toasts, it was time for the parent dances to “Unforgettable” and “Over the Rainbow” by Brother Iz. Next, it was time to dance (or so I hoped). You see, noon receptions are usually tough. It’s broad daylight, not alot of alcohol has flowed, etc. However, Katie and Rich’s friends and family came to party, they didn’t care what time it was! It was the best noon reception I’ve ever done…really! Great reception and they had a bubble departure outside on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon as they escaped to their town car. I can’t forget the room, it looked great thanks to Mel from Dogwood Tree Florals. Check out these great pictures from April Maness.

Cecilia and Brett were married at the beautiful Washington-Duke Inn located in Durham. As usual, Diane Tighe and her team had both the outdoor Terrace and the President’s Ballroom gorgeous for the evening’s reception.

The cocktail hour began on a fabulous fall evening with some soft rock that included Dave Matthews and the Police while golfers were completing their day of golf on the course. While the last few pictures were being taken, the guests were escorted into the ballroom where they were greeted by some classic jazz and warm orange “fall” lighting provided by the Inn’s lighting crew. The couple chose a great introduction song in Elvis Presley’s “A Little Less Conversation” that really pumped up the both the guests and the bridal party. Once everyone was introduced, Brett and Cecilia danced to Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight”. Then it was Cecilia and her father’s turn to take the spotlight with “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong followed by Brett and his mother’s dance to “Secret Garden” by Bruce Springsteen (one of her favorite artists). The bride’s father provided the welcome and dinner began. The main entree was served following toasts from Eric Yeager, the best man, which kept everyone rolling in laughter and Maid of Honor Mary Katherine Kennedy.

After the Cake was cut to Roy Orbison’s “You Got It”, the groom’s father thanked the guests for celebrating the event and open dancing began. The bridal party and guests were there for a great evening as the party rocked for another 4 full hours. There were several special events such as a “dollar” dance (that turned into a twenty dollar dance!) to songs like “Moondance” by Van Morrison and the fitting “Cecilia” by Simon and Garfunkel. Then the bouquet toss to “Single Ladies” by Beyonce, the garter toss to “I Gotcha” by Joe Tex, and the anniversary dance to “Lady Soul” by the Temptations. We had a tie at 2 couples with 39 years, who were then joined by the newlyweds on the dance floor.

The evening concluded with “Shout” from Animal House and Journey’s classic “Don’t Stop Believin’”. Thank you so much to Brett and Cecilia for allowing me to be a part of your evening! Stephen Cannoy of Human Graphics recorded the event and has provided the photos below.
