Talukdar/Kelly Reception-April 25th, 2009
April 30th, 2009
Stephen and Pia are an amazing couple. Their backgrounds and cultures are about as different as they come. Stephen is Boston Irish and Pia is Indian. They met at Duke in grad school and now they are married! I will tell you this, when you bring together these two groups of people it equals one thing…a party! They got married at The Umstead early that Saturday and we handled the audio. They saved the reception for the evening and this reception was rocking. Let me start from the top. I could tell right from the introductions that it was going to be a good night. The parents came in to “Shipping Up To Boston” by Dropkick Murphys and “Jai Ho” from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. The rest of the bridal party entered to “Float On” By Modest Mouse. It was nuts and then Stephen and Pia went right into “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers for their first dance. Great song and a first for me! After several great toasts, Prestonwood brought out the dinners.
Before moving on, I will tell you that the room was unbelievable. My friend Lyn Graves with Fresh Affairs did amazing florals and some colorful cloth columns near the stairwell. Gorgeous! The event was coordinated by Angie Wright with Chic Details, great job Angie. So, let me say more about the reception. After the cake and parent dances, we moved right into open dancing and it was on fire from there! My last few songs almost peeled the paint off the walls! “Shipping Up To Boston”, “Jump Around”, and then “Shout” as my closer of course. It was madness! Great reception guys, congrats. Check out the amazing photos below from Neil Boyd Photography. Great stuff!

Greenfield Prom-April 24th, 2009
April 28th, 2009
This past Friday night was the kickoff of my “prom season” at the Wilson Country Club. Greenfield is a small private school in my hometown of Wilson, NC. I have been doing their prom for years and it is one of the few that I still do. Let me tell ya, proms are tough. These kids will eat you alive if you don’t have every single brand new hip hop song. And on top of that, 99% of the songs are garbage. I think I’m just getting old, but the hip hop/urban stuff these days is SO bad that I can hardly listen to it. In fact, I won’t listen to it outside of playing these events. Anyway, I may be old, but I still rocked it! Thanks to the kids and teachers at Greenfield. Their mardi gras theme looked amazing and once the kids showed up, they partied. I will see you guys again next year.

Chacos/Harris Reception-April 18th, 2009
April 20th, 2009
Brian (a former UNC Tar Heel football player) and Courtney (a beautiful bride! had an amazing reception this past weekend! What a great party! Let me start from the top. I started playing music around 4pm when the guests showed up, just good cocktail and background music. When the bridal party arrived at The Carolina Club in Chapel Hill, I went down to line them up. I could tell they were going to be fun right off the bat!
The introduction song was “Now That We Found Love” by Heavy D! Classic one! Brian and Courtney then went into their first dance “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. Great tune. Brian danced with his mom and Courtney danced with her dad to “How Sweet it Is” by James Taylor. After a welcome by Courtney’s parents, more food came out, and so did the band! Liquid Pleasure took the stage around 6pm and played a great set of oldies and classic party songs. At their break, I played a few songs, and then they came back on with an over 2 hour set, no breaks! They rocked it. I got one more short set at the end of the night. I guess I was there more for the Top 40 stuff and to MC the beginning…no complaints here. I got fed and also got to work with Cara Zuehlke from A Southern Soiree and her amazing team. They did a great job planning this one and keeping the party flowing properly. It is always a treat to work with professional wedding planners! I also got to work with a great photographer that I had not met before. Steve Exum with Steve Exum Photography. He provided the great pictures below. Thanks Courtney and Brian for a great time and best wishes to you both!

Duke Law Reunion-April 17th, 2009
April 20th, 2009
Friday was the beginning of a very long and busy weekend. The first stop that afternoon was setting up for the big bridal show at the fairgrounds (more on that later). My Friday night gig was at Duke Law School’s Star Commons. This is an amazing new part of the law school and it is a gorgeous room. Very state of the art. The show was for about 10 different classes of alumni starting all the way back to 1959. The dean of the school spoke, as did Duke’s president. They also gave out some “half century” awards to 2 graduates from 1959. It was a great ceremony, and then they turned it back over to me to play music. I didn’t get alot of dancers, but I think that everyone enjoyed themselves. I hope that Laura Grisham, previously with The Umstead, will have me back!

Viva La Charleston!
April 15th, 2009
I actually had Easter weekend off and it was awesome! On Thursday, my wife and I left early for Charleston. The boys stayed behind with their favorite babysitter, Bailey. As soon as we arrived, we checked into Charleston Place Hotel, and we hit the rooftop of the “Market Pavilion Hotel”:http://www.marketpavilion.com/ for lunch with my mom and dad. We had a great lunch and then hit King Street for some shopping. That night, we picked up my sister A.D. and went to a late dinner at “High Cotton”:http://www.mavericksouthernkitchens.com/highcotton/. Amazing food and great atmosphere, highly recommended.
On Friday morning, we went to running and then to the spa. Yes, I know, very metrosexual. After that, we had lunch at “Sermet’s Corner”:http://www.americascuisine.com/southcarolina/charleston/sermetscorner.aspx on King St. Another great meal. I might have gained 10 lbs. on this trip! We hung around King some more and then took an amazing carriage ride that evening before dinner at “Cypress”:http://www.magnolias-blossom-cypress.com/. Once again, a 10 on my restaurant list. You gotta check it out! Saturday was our day to return, but before we did, we had one last Charleston meal at “Cru Café”:http://www.crucafe.com/. The bomb! We got in the car full and ready for a Red Bull.
Sunday was a really great day. Easter and Ainsley’s birthday! We went to church, lunch at Firebirds, and then for a bike ride with me towing the boys up Lassiter Mill Rd. to the Ben & Jerry’s for ice cream! That was hard work and we had a great day. We stayed in that night for Ainsley’s birthday since we were exhausted from the weekend and had sushi from Mura. Gym time! Got a lot of weddings coming up so stay tuned to this blog for a busy wedding season!
Rosensweet/O'Brien Reception-4/4/09
April 8th, 2009
Mitch and Meghan’s wedding was one of the coolest of the year thus far. They totally went all out with this one! It was at Pine Lake Pavilion in Mebane, NC. If you haven’t been out there, you should go and check it out. It is gorgeous, and Jennifer does a great job out there. In fact, they booked every service that we have! Ceremony, DJ, Videography, and the photo booth! Not to mention, they had lighting by Josh and Jeff Simpson of Simpsound and 2 massive cakes from Donna with Sweet Memories, and a candy buffet! Wow! Let’s start with the ceremony. They picked a great processional “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz and “When You Say Nothing at All” by Ronan Keating. As the second song played, Meghan made her way around the lake their in a horse and carriage! It was awesome! The ceremony was lovely and as they walked down the aisle, I played a song by one of their favorite bands, “Yeah Yeah Yeah” by My Radio. On to the reception! After their introduction, we went right into the first dance “Anyone But You” by the Moldy Peaches! It is from the Juno Soundtrack and actually went over so well. The crowd loved it! Their parent dances were to “Turn Around” by Harry Belafonte and “Song for My Son” by Mikki Vierick. After dinner, toasts, and cake, we got into the dancing! They had a big list of songs, but I only had a limited amount of time to get into it since you have to turn it down at 11 outside. Regardless, the dance floor was rocking and everyone had a blast! Great reception guys! Check out the amazing pictures below from my officemate Shane Snider
