Sally and Michael’s reception was at Treyburn Country Club in Durham this past weekend. It was a hot, but gorgeous day and all of the guests arrived right on time to the reception. I was ready and waiting and the event was right on time. Lauren Barry at Treyburn was great to work with and helped keep us on schedule throughout the event. After lining up everyone for the intros, I came back upstairs and introduced them to “Love” by Nat King Cole. The bride and groom then went into their choreographed first dance to “I’ll Be”, however, not by Edwin McCain, but the groom himself had actually rearranged it, sped it up, and recorded it. It actually sounded better than the original! I loved his arrangement of the song. I sound like Randy Jackson on American Idol right now, don’t I? After they danced, Sally danced with her dad to “I Loved Her First” by Heartland and Mike danced with his mom to “The Perfect Fan” by Backstreet Boys. The blessing was given and the buffet was opened. The country club served some great food and afterwards we heard 2 great toasts, cut the lovely cake by Lynn’s Traditions and then opened the dance floor with the couple’s choice, “ABC” by the Jackson 5. It was on from that point forward! Great dance response to all types of music, and ending the night with “You Shook Me All Night Long” and then “Stand By Me” (fyi, the last song at my wedding). Great reception start to end!

I had the pleasure of DJ’ing Bill Adams’ surprise birthday party this party Saturday at 8 1/2 Clubhouse. I was hired by Blair and Lisa, his daughters and my cousins (sorta). Anyway, the funniest part of this story is that I was setting up and I heard someone call my name. I looked up and it’s Bill! He was walking his dog over near the party area and saw me there. We have known each other a long time. Anyway, he says, “what’s going on?”. I was like, “someone hired me to do a private gig or something over here”. LOL. He walked off and if he knew about the party, he played it off great. I really think that went he finally came over to the party with Lisa, he was surprised, or a really good actor. The first couple of hours I played alot of beach music and “summer” stuff like Marley, Jason Mraz, and Jack Johnson. At about 8:15, the younger group came inside and basically told me to do my thing. I was mixing everything from Earth, Wind & Fire to Flo-Rida. They had a ball and there were some serious dancers in this group. It wrapped around 10pm and they were still begging for more. I ended the night with “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye. It’s a wrap! Great bday party!

Jamie and Elissa’s reception fell on a Friday (and I got to take Saturday off, sweet!). The event took place at Cary’s lovely Prestonwood. The guests arrived to a cocktail hour outside of the ballroom as I finished setting up. I lined up the bridal party and could tell they were ready to rock! James is from England and alot of the bridal party and guests made the travel “over the pond”! The parents, ring bearers, and flower girls came in to “Bittersweet Symphony”, the bridesmaids and groomsmen came in to “Bring ‘em Out by T.I.” and finally the bride and groom made their way down the huge staircase to “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay. It was awesome! They went right into their first dance “This Years Love” by David Gray. I love that song…After their dance, a huge buffet opened and the guests enjoyed Prestonwood’s amazing food. As soon as dinner ended, we went into the parent dances. Elissa danced with her dad to “Butterfly Kisses” and Jamie danced with his mom to “You Bring Me Up”. Those are tear jerkers, but great songs. The toasts were excellent by the best man maid of honor. They really had prepared and it showed. Very funny stuff, Jamie and Elissa got roasted a little. The beautiful cake was cut afterwards and then the dance floor opened to a big start and never dwindled. I had the crowd rocking to everything from Abba to Flo-Rida. The biggest song of the night? Billie Jean for sure! Love live MJ. This was a great reception, I wish they could all be on Fridays with Saturdays off!

My 4th of July

July 7th, 2009

No wedding post this week, but I did have a great week off down in Atlantic Beach, NC. The best part was that my whole family was there. Mom, Dad, sister A.D., wife, and both sons. It was amazing. My buddy Kevin also brought his 2 kids down. We had fun in the sun for days, but it was definitely not a vacation…more like work taking care of all of those kids and keeping everyone entertained. I did one show while I was there on July 4th at a little beach bar called Golden Margaritas. I do it every year and there is always a great crowd there wanting to party. The fireworks were awesome and my oldest son, Colin, was totally into it. It reminded me of a song by a guy named Franky Perez called “My 4th of July”: “It’s the look in my first born’s eyes, standing amazed on the 4th of July, falling in love for the very first time. It’s enough to make a grown man cry.” Copy and paste this link if you want to download it for free! http://www.zshare.net/audio/6236984530b329ff/

Ashley and Zach have been together since the 8th grade. They stuck together through school and even Zach being deployed to Iraq in the military. On Saturday, they finally made it official with their marriage at the Doubletree in RTP. Ashley is the niece of Dom & Laura with Forever Bridal. They asked me to do this wedding many months ago. I was honored since they had a huge list of DJs to chose from. In any case, their ceremony outside was very hot, but was very sweet. They each had vows that they said to each other which I thought was a nice touch. After the ceremony, we did the introductions almost right away. Their first dance was to “I’ll Be Here” by Steven Curtis Chapman. Ashley danced with her dad to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Sinatra, and Zach and his mom’s dance was “I Am Your Child” by Barry Manilow. After the two dads gave a welcome and blessing, the buffet started and the food was great! After everyone had a few drinks, the dance party started and the requests were all over the map from “Love Shack” to the new Black Eyed Peas single. This crowd came to party and the reception was great! Congrats guys and thanks to Zach for serving his country!
